Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the Programme:
How can I become an interpreter in Brussels?

Is interpreting for me?
Interpretation is for anyone who has mastered at least one foreign language at the required level, has communication skills, is intellectually curious about a variety of areas of knowledge, is easy to adapt to different environments and, most importantly, seeks a profession that brings satisfaction and pleasure.
Do I need to be a Sofia University graduate to apply?
Not necessarily. The requirement is that you have a Bachelor's degree, no matter if in Philology and not obligatorily from Sofia University.
How well do I have to know the language to apply?
The level of proficiency of the active language must be equal to C1/C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The training at the Master's Degree Program does not imply language teaching similar to the one offered by foreign language courses in general.
Can I apply with languages other than English, French, German?
No. The active languages you can apply with are English, French and German only.
Due to the nature of my work, I may have to be absent from classes. How will this absence affect my training?
The training combines active participation in classes and systematic self-training. Any of the two elements alone is not sufficient for successful completion of the course.
May I study while working full-time?
It is not recommended. The training includes a large number of self-training classes.
Are any bursaries offered?
Every year, European Commission's Directorate General for Interpretation announces a bursary competition for Conference Interpreting students according to the needs of the Directorate. Sofia University does not offer bursaries.
How much does it cost to study in the Conference Interpreting Master’s Degree Programme?
The training fee is BGN 2400, i.e. BGN 1200 per semester.
